This is the first project of my thesis exploring the intersection between motion design and branding to support nonprofits in need of engagement.

Young at Heart is an online “adopt-a-grandparent” program bringing together college students and folks in nursing homes to keep each other company during the pandemic through zoom calls and exchanged letters. The handmade card / scrapbook elements in this system convey a sense of intimacy and nostalgia, kind of like a card you’d send to a grandparent or a family scrapbook. The cascading type lockups throughout mirror the shape of a family tree, with grandparent puns to keep things youthful.

This is the second project of my thesis exploring the intersection between motion design and branding to support nonprofits in need of engagement.

The Portland Knit-a-Thon is an event where knitters, crocheters, and crafters get together to create knitwear to donate to houseless shelters. The interwoven grid system throughout mirrors the interweaving of a knit pattern while the reoccurring oval shape reflects the shape of a ball of yarn. This brand system is modern enough to appeal to the Gen Z resurgence of crocheters, while remaining accessible enough for elderly with many years of knitting experience.

The Zine Zone is an independent project I created with a few of my peers to elevate students work and increase visibility for the zine-making at PSU. The Zine Zone exists online and in person, with a website archive, a physical zine library, and social media.

I wanted students to feel like their work was truly being valued and appreciated and I wanted the brand to feel elevated in it’s approach. I used columns, arches, and flowing gradients to make it feel kind of like a museum, elevating student work to an almost ethereal level. I wanted students to feel like they were a part of something bigger, with a very “high brow” approach to give that sense of importance.

Designer’s Tarot is an event I put on for the PSU design community in Spring 2021. It was an online event where the attendees had the opportunity to illustrate their own tarot cards and assign its fortune-telling meaning. I created this event to build community and foster a sense of connection online, since the isolation of thepandemic was really starting to get to me. The event was well visited and the attendees made some beautiful tarots!

Gif me a Break is an event I created and led for the PSU design community in Winter 2021. It was an online workshop for younger students to teach some basic motion skills and get folks involved with their peers in a low-stakes environment. Each student got a folder of assets and followed along to make their own animated gif!

Rimsky-Kosakoffee House is a classical music-themed ice cream and coffee café in an unmarked (haunted?) Victorian house in Southeast Portland. I created an identity, a variety of deliverables, a brand guide, and a pitch deck to bring the midnight café to life.

The logo depicts the café's namesake, Russian composer Rimsky Korsakov, wearing the Victorian house dormer that sits atop the café. Rimsky's signature is integrated as well, with emblematic features that mimic Russian design during the composer’s time.

This set of illustrated two-color posters are based on the prompt of antiracism and uplifting marginalized voices. The series references the erasure of BIPOC identities in Western art history, with a lack of visibility resulting in a Eurocentric view of ideal beauty.

The posters use the Art Nouveau style to depict Black women as figures of ideal beauty, with an elevated status of early 20th century women in power. The bright purple and irises represent royalty and grandeur, further elevating the figures to a place of nobility.
